Sets how much of your contribution qualifies for tax relief: Revenue allows an age-related percentage of earnings, with earnings capped at €115,000.
A long-term average. Real returns vary year to year and can be negative.
Used to show the tax relief on your own contributions.
At 40, with €450 a month going in and €50,000 saved already, your pot could reach €460,066 by 66: an income of about €1,534 a month.
Add the State Pension (Contributory) at the maximum rate from 66, and it comes to about €2,831 a month.
How we got this
- Paid in, €450 a month to 66 €140,400
- Saved already €50,000
- Growth at 5% a year €269,666
- Your pot at 66 €460,066
- 4% of it a year, over twelve months €1,534
This projection is above the Standard Fund Threshold — the cap on the total pension fund that gets full tax relief. Anything above it is taxed on drawdown, so the practical ceiling is lower than this illustration. Damian will work out your exact figures.
How your pot could grow

The assumptions behind these numbers
- Growth is assumed at the constant rate you choose. Investments rise and fall, so real returns will differ and can be negative in some years.
- The monthly income figure assumes you draw down 4% of your fund each year. It is an illustration, not a recommended strategy.
- Tax relief is shown at the rate you select, on your own contributions only, and is limited to Revenue's age-related percentage of your earnings (15% under 30, rising in steps to 40% at 60 and over), with earnings capped at €115,000 for the calculation.
- Figures are not adjusted for inflation and ignore product charges, which will reduce returns. They are not a guarantee of any outcome.
- The State Pension (Contributory) may be payable on top, €15,564 a year for a full entitlement. Check gov.ie for the current rate.
